Apple to track swine flu
IPHONE users will soon be able to track the outbreak of the deadly swine flu virus thanks to a new application.
New York based software developer IntuApps is currently awaiting approval from Apple for the Swine Flu Tracker, which will be made available to download free of charge to iPhone and iPod touch users.
IntuApps developer Barry Schwartz blogged on the forthcoming application, saying: “Under our IntuApps brand, we released a new iPhone app that has data on the swine flu outbreak.”
The application includes key features such as the Threat Level Page, a web page which displays the current threat level as determined by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Swine Flu Tracker can map confirmed or suspected swine flu cases using Google Maps, where the user can click on the pins to read more details.

Finally it also includes breaking news alerts from WHO, the US-based CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and HealthMap, a global disease alert mapping system, pulling together the information from their Twitter accounts.
Although the exact origin of the swine flu outbreak is unknown, it is generally accepted to have begun in Mexico in March, rapidly spreading to the United States, Europe, South East Asia and even as far afield as New Zealand.
There have been 1454 confirmed cases worldwide, with the official death toll at 27. Some suspect this latter figure could be as high as 101.
The WHO has classified the current status of the virus as a Phase 5 outbreak, which is just one below an official pandemic.
iPhone users can request notification of when the Swine Flu Tracker is available by leaving a comment and their email address on Barry Schwartz’s blog.
